Course description

Art therapy can be defined as a discipline with specific characteristics and boundaries. Art therapy is a support mechanism (or therapy) that uses artistic instruments to help individuals regain or improve not only their mental health but also their emotional and social well-being.

This support mechanism approaches art as a communication tool. In this way, it helps people express their emotions and communicate. As a result, it becomes easier for them to achieve and reflect the changes they need to make in their behavior.

By using the creative process as the starting point, a therapeutic space is created, and then reality is looked at and reevaluated from a different perspective.

Art therapy is talking about reality through symbolism. The things that individuals represent through their creativity may reflect anger, abandonment, loss, and other emotions. They may do this unintentionally or indirectly.

Art is the external expression of personal expression and creativity. Art elements provide the externalization of the inner through symbols. Experiences and emotional content pushed into the unconscious and distorted are expressed through the color, sound, form, movement, melody, rhythm, and language tools of art. This externalized content provides the therapist with opportunities for the healing and reorganization of the mental apparatus, while also offering rich clues.
